I went to work for DuPont at the Textile Fibers Plant in Waynesboro, Va. on June 8th 1962 the Monday following graduation from Berea. After training and working as a first line supervisor for a couple years I moved into the Computer Group and spent the rest of my 37 year career with DuPont in Waynesboro, Virginia designing and writing computer programs, both commercial and process control applications, being an Information Systems Consultant when I retired.
I was married in September of 1962 to my high school sweetheart ( A '62 graduate of UVA Nursing School) and we have three daughters. They are Tina- 5th grade teacher at local Elementary School. Vonda – Benefits Manager for Waynesboro School System and Daphne – Campus Minister (for Virginia Baptist) at JMU (she is not married). We have four wonderful grandchildren. Tina has two children Emmy who is 17 enjoys softball and volleyball, graduated from high school this year and plans to enter JMU in the fall of 2012. When she was12, her 12 and under fast pitch softball team represented Virginia in the Nationals and ended up 6th plus she was chosen as the 1st team catcher . Nathan is 14 and enjoys football, playing for Stuarts Draft High School. Vonda's children are Jacob age 22 – He was the starting quarterback for the Riverheads High School football team that won the State Division 1 Championship in 2006. He graduated from Bridgewater College this year and is employed at Blue Ridge Power Sports in Harrisonburg, . Dillon age 19 enjoys football and track and bull riding of all things. He is a graduate of Riverheads High School and is attending MMI (Motorcycle Mechanics Institute) in Phoenix, AZ. We have enjoyed following the grandkids in their sports and will continue to do so even though we only have one left in high school. I retired from DuPont in March of 1999 and manage to stay active in my Church, and the local Volunteer Fire Company which I have been a member of since 1963 and served as Chief from 1982 until 1987. In addition it seems folks are always having computer problems, and I lend a hand whenever I can.
